Haeundae
Busan’s best-known beach: 1.5 km of sand that draws over 10 million visitors a season. You’ll find big hotels, restaurants and the Blueline Park beach train here. It’s the easy choice for a first, summer-focused visit. The downside is that Nampo and the markets are a long ride away on the other side of the city.
Gwangalli
The closest beach to the city center, popular with young people and known for its views of the lit-up Gwangan Bridge at night. Visit Busan lists a drone show on Saturday nights, so book a sea-view room if you can.
Seomyeon
“The largest downtown in Busan”: shopping streets, restaurants, bars and an underground shopping center. Two subway lines meet here, so you can reach both the beaches (Line 2) and Nampo and Busan Station (Line 1) without changing. It’s the best base if you’d rather have convenience than a sea view.
Nampo
Old Busan around Gwangbok-dong and Nampo-dong:
- Gwangbok-ro fashion street, Yongdusan Park and BIFF Square
- Gukje Market, which grew up after the Korean War
- Jagalchi, one of Korea’s largest fish markets
It’s great for food and atmosphere, and close to Gamcheon Culture Village and Taejongdae. It’s far from the beaches.
Busan Station
Handy if you’re arriving or leaving on an early or late KTX. Chinatown and Texas Street are just across the road, and the Choryang Ibagu-gil walk is nearby. It’s on Line 1, two stops from Nampo.
Gijang (Osiria)
The coast north of Haeundae, home to resort hotels, the Osiria coastal walk and Haedong Yonggungsa, a temple on the sea cliffs. It suits a relaxed resort stay, but you’ll spend more time getting into the city.
When prices go up
- Beach season: Haeundae’s 2026 season ran from 26 June to 15 September. Gwangalli’s and most other beaches’ ran through July and August. Book early for summer.
- Busan Fireworks Festival: held over Gwangalli Beach in the autumn. The 2026 festival is on Saturday 7 November. Hotels with bridge views sell out and prices rise sharply that weekend.
