Days with something closed

Based on our guideBest Time to Visit Korea: Month by Month (with 2027 Holidays)

    What this checks

    • Weekly closing days, such as Gyeongbokgung on Tuesdays and Changdeokgung on Mondays. Palaces open on a public holiday that falls on their closing day and close the next working day instead.
    • Public holidays through 2027, including Seollal (6–9 February 2027) and Chuseok (14–16 September 2027), when trains sell out and some places close.
    • Special rules, like Jagalchi Market on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Tuesdays, and Bukchon's 10:00–17:00 visiting hours.

Places can also close for maintenance, events or bad weather, so check on the day for anything you can't miss. Plan your days withPlan My Days, and see the best time to visit for the full holiday list.

    Questions people ask

    Which places does it check?

Major sights with regular closing days that often catch visitors out: Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Jongmyo, Bukchon, Gwangjang and Namdaemun markets, DDP, Leeum, the Hongdae Free Market, the DMZ Peace Tour, and in Busan Jagalchi and Gukje markets, the City Tour Bus and the Taejongdae train.

Why is a palace open on its usual closing day?

Korea's royal palaces stay open when their weekly closing day falls on a public holiday, and close on the next working day instead. For example, if a Tuesday is a holiday, Gyeongbokgung opens that Tuesday and closes on Wednesday.

Does it cover dates after 2027?

Weekly closing days are shown for any date, but our holiday calendar currently runs to the end of 2027, so holidays after that are not included. You will see a notice if your dates are outside the range.
