The DMZ (Paju)
The DMZ Peace Tour is run by Paju City and starts at Imjingak. It’s the cheapest way to see the border area, and you can do it without a tour company.
What you see: the main course takes about 3 hours. A shuttle bus goes from Imjingak to the Third Infiltration Tunnel, Dora Observatory (views into North Korea) and Unification Village, then back.
Tickets (shuttle bus included):
| With the tunnel monorail | Walking down the tunnel | |
|---|---|---|
| Adults | ₩12,200 | ₩9,200 |
| Students | ₩9,500 | ₩7,000 |
| Seniors (65+) | ₩7,700 | ₩6,200 |
Rules
- Bring your original passport. Copies and expired passports are refused, and tickets are only sold once your whole group is there.
- Tickets are sold from 9:00 to 14:30 and often sell out early, so arrive in the morning.
- Closed on Mondays, on weekday public holidays, and on the main day of Seollal and Chuseok. Tours can also be cancelled at short notice for security reasons or bad weather.
- Photography and filming are banned at points along the route.
- There’s no guide, which is the main reason many visitors book a tour from Seoul instead.
Getting there: take the Gyeongui Line to Imjingak Station (you may need to change at Munsan; check in your map app), then walk to Imjingak Resort, where the shuttle leaves.
JSA and Panmunjom: the famous blue huts on the border aren’t open to ordinary tourists in 2026. Public tours stopped in July 2023. Be wary of any tour that promises them.
Suwon Hwaseong Fortress
A UNESCO World Heritage fortress wall around the old center of Suwon. Walk the wall, then visit the restored palace inside.
- Fortress: open 9:00–18:00 and free.
- Hwaseong Haenggung Palace:
- Open 9:00–18:00, last entry 17:30.
- ₩2,000 for adults, ₩1,500 for youths, ₩1,000 for children.
- Free in hanbok, for seniors 65+, and for everyone on the last Wednesday of the month.
- Combined ticket: ₩4,000.
- Fortress tour train: ₩6,000 for adults, a good way to save your legs.
- Getting there:
- Subway Line 1 or the Suin-Bundang Line to Suwon Station, then a bus or taxi to the fortress.
- Or an express bus: 3000 from Gangnam Station (Exit 5) to Paldalmun, or 1007 from Jamsil (Exit 6).
Nami Island
A riverside island near Gapyeong with tree-lined avenues, famous from the drama Winter Sonata. It’s especially pretty in autumn.
- Getting there: ITX-Cheongchun train from Yongsan or Cheongnyangni to Gapyeong (about an hour). Then a short taxi or bus to Gapyeong Wharf and the ferry across.
- Admission: around ₩19,000 for adults, including the return ferry. We couldn’t confirm this year’s price on the official site, so check before you go.
- Combine it with Petite France or the Garden of Morning Calm for a full day.
Korean Folk Village (Yongin)
An open-air museum of traditional houses, crafts and performances.
- Admission: ₩22,000 for foreign visitors who show a passport. That’s well below the ₩37,000–39,000 regular price, and the offer runs through 2026.
- Hours: vary by season. It was open 10:00–19:00 in late October.
- Getting there: Suin-Bundang Line to Sanggal, then a bus. Or from Suwon Station (Exit 4), bus 37 or 10-5. That makes it easy to combine with Suwon.
Incheon Chinatown
Korea’s original Chinatown, opposite Exit 1 of Incheon Station, the end of subway Line 1. Come for jjajangmyeon in the neighborhood where it was invented, plus the colorful Fairy Tale Village nearby. It’s a good half day if you’re flying out of Incheon.

Questions people ask
Can I visit the JSA (Panmunjom) in 2026?
Not as an ordinary tourist. Public tours of the Joint Security Area stopped in July 2023, and since 2025 only special visits for senior officials have been run. Tours advertising the 'DMZ' now visit the Third Tunnel, Dora Observatory and Imjingak instead.
Do I need a tour company to visit the DMZ?
No. You can buy the city-run DMZ Peace Tour yourself at Imjingak. It includes the shuttle bus but not a guide. A private tour adds transport from Seoul and an English-speaking guide.
What should I bring to the DMZ?
Your original, valid passport. Copies, photos on your phone and expired passports are refused. Everyone in your group must be present when you buy tickets.
