Tips for using Korean phrases

  • The polite ending -yo (요) works almost everywhere. Add juseyo (주세요, "please give me") after a noun to ask for anything.
  • A smile and a small bow go a long way, even if your pronunciation isn't perfect.
  • Need a longer conversation? Use a translation app such as Papago; see apps you need in Korea.
  • For dietary needs, the Food & Allergy Card explains everything at once; for taxis, use Show the Driver.

Questions people ask

Why can't I hear any sound?

Audio uses your device's built-in Korean voice. If none is installed, add Korean in your phone's text-to-speech or language settings, or simply show the phrase in big letters instead.
